Esco Lifesciences Leads Workshop on Biosafety Cabinet Use and Maintenance in Thailand
Esco Lifesciences conducted a Biosafety Cabinet (BSC) Use and Maintenance Workshop from October 8-11, 2024, at the Training Center for Excellence in Medical Sciences, Department of Medical Sciences, Nonthaburi, Thailand.
Organized by RPHL, NIH Thailand, and TEMS-DMSC, the workshop focused on equipping laboratory personnel from across Southeast Asia with essential skills for the safe and effective operation and maintenance of biosafety cabinets. The workshop aims to educate users on:
- The different types of BSCs and their components.
- Implementing standard procedures for cabinet operation and maintenance.
- Developing practical skills for regular BSC cleaning and decontamination.
- Troubleshooting common BSC issues encountered in daily use.
- Reading and interpreting BSC certification reports for optimal performance.
The event also featured a mix of didactic sessions and hands-on practical work. Participants engaged in demonstrations, including airflow integrity checks, HEPA filter testing, spill management, and cabinet decontamination simulations.
The workshop was graced by key figures from the organizing institutions, such as the Division of International Collaboration of the Department of Medical Sciences, the Thailand National Institute of Health (NIH), the Regional Public Health Laboratory Network (RPHL), and the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The workshop attracted 15 participants from Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Laos, Philippines, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
