Towards a better patient care.
Clinical research refers to all research or studies carried out to understand and improve knowledge of human diseases. It helps develop diagnostic methods and better ways to detect, diagnose, treat and prevent diseases or medical devices to ensure better patient care.
There are 2 main types of clinical research: observational studies (which contain the natural history studies) and interventional studies (or clinical trials). Observational studies improve the knowledge of the disease and its progresses over time thru collecting health information. Interventional studies on the other hand are done to determine whether new drugs or treatments are safe and effective. It provides scientific evidence of the efficacy and safety of a new drug or new ways of using existing (known) treatments in the context of an illness.
